About 500 Georgian soldiers from 22nd Infantry Battalion participated in exercises at the Vaziani military base, about 15 kilometers south of the capital. Vaziani army base( former Russian base) served as fictitious country .Its legitimate government (described as democratic and pro-western) was seized by terrorists (Reka Kura Guerrillas / RKG-”antidemocratic organization who support terrorism and have been linked to past al-Qaeda operations”) .Ousted president asked United Nations to restore his government. During exercises Georgian soldiers played their role of peace keepers.
The program was a part of US$50 million program GSSOP -that has U.S. military instructors training about 2,000 Georgian servicemen from four battalions for deployment in Iraq and other international peacekeeping operations.
GSSOP-stands for Georgia Security & Stability Operations .That Program was introduced in Georgia after Initial GTEP -Train and Equip Program ended in 2004.
